Welcome Signs of Spring

Clockwise from top: A blanket of snow geese covered the fields east of Wessington Springs along SD Highway 34 last Wednesday, serving as a gorgeous, albeit noisy, welcome wagon as motorists headed west toward the Wessington Hills.

Local and visiting families gathered in huge numbers at the city park Saturday morning for the annual Wessington Springs Community Easter Egg Hunt. Over 100 kids lined up for the group Easter Egg Hunt photo, which can be found in this issue on PAGE ONE with more trickling in just before the start of the hunt. Kids enjoyed abundant sunshine as they canvassed the city park on the lookout for 1000 brightly colored, soughtafter, candy and prize- filled eggs, stuffed and hidden by the Prairie Hills 4-H Club.

City beautification committee volunteers Gloria Vavra and Joyce Krueger took advantage of the recent thaw, dismantling the community Christmas tree area of garland and holiday decor north of Wessington Springs City Hall. With plenty of tools on hand, the dynamic duo chipped through the remaining ice that held Prancer’s feet captive, finally able to put the holidays to bed just in time to welcome spring and warm weather.
