Rusted from weather paired with bent and eroded edges dating as far back as the 2014 tornado, the Wessington Springs welcome sign along Highway 34 at the Dakota Avenue entrance to town has been in need of a makeover.
Wessington Springs Area Chamber and Development (WSACD) spearheaded the sign renovation, employing the Spring Valley Colony to handcraft new, individually screwed letters to make future replacement easier. The freshly-painted royal blue and bright goldenrod letters serve as a warm welcome to the City at the Foothills. The Wessington Springs Community Foundation granted WSACD $500 toward the project.
Local businessman and implement dealer Jerry Caffee (shown at above right) lent a hand to sign hangers from the colony last week, snapping a few photos of his own. Find his photos above in the slide show.
