Gwyneth Fastnacht (pictured far right) and Loree Gaikowski (pictured at right) presented the program for the SACC meeting on Tuesday, February 7. Gaikowski and Fastnacht shared about the Wessington Springs Winter Park Activities and how the project has evolved over time. Starting with a simple idea to run the tow-rope on a regular basis, to organized activities, equipment for free checkout, and a Facebook Page for sharing information and staying organized.
Some of the recent improvements and resources include thick pads on the poles on the sledding hill, skate-helpers to aid kids and adults as they learn to skate, and two “We are Open” flags to fly when activities are happening. The group hopes to see consistent communication with the city who manages the park, redoing the icerink to aid in smooth solid ice for safer skating, and yearly maintenance to the Rube Goldberg machine that pulls us all up the hill. Even with all the changes, the goals of the WS Winter Park remain the same: wellness in the winter through physical activities and a place to connect with others, enjoyment of our amazing city park, and making memories in Wessington Springs. Wessington Springs is an amazing place to live and raise a family. The WS Winter Park adds just another wonderful opportunity to thrive here in The Springs.
