Jerauld County election officials are reminding residents that several different ballot styles are being used in today’s primary election, and poll workers report some voters have already arrived at the polls unsure of which races they are eligible to vote in.
According to Jerauld County Auditor Shannon Fagerhaug, the 2026 Primary Election includes multiple ballot styles within each precinct based on party registration and where voters live.
Because all federal, state and county races on the ballot are partisan contests and only Republican candidates filed for those offices, only registered Republicans are eligible to vote in those races.
A Republican primary race between Walter Hein Jr. and Collin Angus Anson for Jerauld County Commissioner District No. 3 will appear only on ballots for Republican voters residing within that district.
Voters who live within the Huron or Kimball school districts will also see nonpartisan school board races on their ballots. Those contests are open to all registered voters regardless of political party affiliation.
“If you are not a registered Republican, but live within the Huron or Kimball School District, you will still have a ballot available to you,” Fagerhaug said.
Voters who are not registered Republicans and do not reside within those school districts will not have a ballot available in this election.
Election officials encourage voters to review their ballot carefully and ask poll workers if they have questions about which races apply to them. Polls remain open until 7 p.m. Tuesday.
The polling places in each precinct of this county are as follows:
Precinct 1 Jerauld County Ag Building
Precinct 2 Jerauld County Ag Building
Precinct 3 Alpena Community Center
Precinct 4 Jerauld County Ag Building
Precinct 5 Jerauld County Ag Building
