For generations, the white church standing atop Harmony Hill has been a familiar sight across the Jerauld County countryside. Though worship services are no longer held there, the former Harmony Friends Church remains an enduring symbol of the area's history, faith and rural heritage.
Now it's time for all of us to help preserve it.
Community members are invited to a volunteer painting day on Sunday, Aug. 30, from 1 to 6 p.m. to help freshen up the historic church, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Whether you can stay all afternoon or lend a hand for an hour, your help will make a difference. Volunteers are asked to bring a paintbrush and scraper. Paint will be provided, along with a canopy for shade and plenty of cold water.
For decades, volunteers have generously given their time to care for this treasured landmark. With neighbors of all ages working side by side once again, we can help ensure Harmony Hill continues to stand proudly on the prairie for generations to come.
