Wessington Springs Elementary School students gave back to the community in a big way, as demonstrated during a check presentation assembly last week.
“I love the month of February in the elementary,” said Carrie Azure, Principal at the elementary school. “The past four years, staff sign up to be on the Healthy Heart committee and create enjoyable learning opportunities for our students.”
February “Healthy Heart Month Change Wars” and “Hoops for Hearts" raised over $1,000 and was donated to Jerauld County Ambulance ($500) and the Wessington Springs High School (WSHS) Fresh Fruit and Vegetables Program.
The “Spartans Got Talent” show hosted by the sixth grade class raised over $700. The WSHS class of 2028 donated $325 to the Wessington Springs Winter Park Program and $325 to the elementary school library.
“Giving back and being grateful to our community is the culminating event for our kids — seeing where the money raised goes and telling others we appreciate what they do,” said Azure. “What a good feeling it is to give back to our community!”
