Need to know voter resources: polling places, hours and ballots in this issue
Registered voters in the Wessington Springs School District, City of Wessington Springs and Town of Alpena will head to the polls next Tuesday, April 12, as the three entities hold elections to fill vacant positions on their respective boards.
The 2022 school board election will be combined with the City of Wessington Springs with polling places at the Ag Building in Wessington Springs and Buffalo County Courthouse in Gann Valley.
An election will also be held on Tuesday, April 12, 2022 in Alpena at the Community Center for one, three-year Trustee term on the municipality’s board. The polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. in Gann Valley, Alpena and Wessington Springs
School Board Election
Seven candidates are vying for three vacant positions on the Wessington Springs School District Board of Education and include: Gwyneth R. Dean-Witte (Fastnacht), Chris Heim, Laura G. Kieser, Amber Kolousek, Sara Thompson, Darrick Van Dyke and Derek Zastrow.
The three-year terms of Amber Kolousek, Chris Schimke and Jim Burg will become vacant due to the expiration of present terms of office.
City of Wessington Springs Election
In Wessington Springs, incumbent Brian Bergeleen and current Ward 3 councilman Pat Fastnacht are running for Mayor. A Ward 3 election will be held with Joe Hettinger and Natasha Waters running for the vacant position. Incumbents in Wards 1 and 2, Ryan Knipfer and Layton Schimke, respectively, are unopposed.
Vacancies include the two-year term of Mayor Brian Bergeleen, two-year term of First Ward Alderman Ryan Knipfer, twoyear term of Second Ward Alderman Layton Schimke and two-year term of Third Ward Alderman Pat Fastnacht.
Town of Alpena Election
Tara Viktora and Steve Small are running for the position that will become vacant due to expiration of present terms, currently held by Terry Nedved.
