Build Springs Presents $300,000 Donation to School Board for Rec Center Construction

Between cash donations and pledges, non-profit’s fundraising efforts total $600,000 for project

The culmination of a fundraising journey four years in the making took place last week as non-profit organization Build Springs presented a check in the amount of $300,000 to Wessington Springs Board of Education members for the rec center / auxiliary gymnasium project. The money will go directly to the construction of the project, which is currently underway and scheduled for completion in Fall 2023.

The nine-member volunteer committee raised a total of $600,000 for the project through fundraising events, writing grants and soliciting donations and pledges.

In addition last week’s $300,000 donation, Build Springs wrote three separate checks directly to hkg Architects totaling $40,000 for architectural work, design and construction documents.

Common practice when conducting a large, capital fundraising campaign, Build Springs offered individual and business donors the option to donate over the course of up to five years. The remaining $260,000 will continue to be paid to the school district over five years and deposited into the school’s Fund 29 as donors make their pledge payments. Those funds are earmarked for maintenance and future needs of the rec center project. Continuing with its philanthropic mission of helping the Wessington Springs area continue to grow and thrive, the Build Springs Committee has set its fundraising sights on city park improvements.

The committee’s annual Gala, themed “Boots and Bling” this year will be held October 1, kicking off with a social hour from 6-7 p.m., a supper by Sweet Grass at 7 p.m. followed by a Fancy Dessert Dash and comedian. All proceeds from this year’s event will benefit Wessington Springs City Park improvements.
