Spring Has Sprung

Spring sports, baby calves and nearly-full calendar of events signal transition to new season

On the heels of a winter that maintained its clutches on the region longer than most folks appreciated, the signs of the changing seasons are emerging fast and furious, with an equally exuberant schedule of events that mark this time of year right around the corner.

In addition to this weekend’s Pheasants Forever Seed Plot and Trap Distribution (PAGE THREE) and Festival of Tables (PAGE TWO),

a flurry of end-of-school-year events are slated for next week.

Prospect Hill Cemetery has scheduled a work day up on the hill on Saturday, May 13 at 9 a.m. Many hands make light work and event organizers encourage those with family and friends buried at Prospect Hill to lend a hand.

Planting Festival, Blessing of Shakespeare Garden Welcome Spring

The 2023 annual Shakespeare Garden Planting Festival is scheduled for Wednesday to Saturday, May 24-27. All willing hands are welcome to help plant the garden, with no experience necessary. This brief ceremony will take place at 1 p.m. in Shakespeare Garden and the public is invited.

Those interested in helping are asked to contact a board member or simply “show up” at Shakespeare Garden anytime during the festival. Board members will be happy to provide instructions and welcome all helpers. Contact Susan Arnott at 605-539-1999 or Kathy Dean at 605-539-1529 for more information.
