On April 22, 2025, the Spartans traveled to Corsica to participate in the 12th annual Jaguar Invitational Track & Field Meet. Anna Arhart threw 34’4” in shot put to land in 2nd place and she threw 78’ 4” in discus. Makynna Heim continues to gain confidence and make improvements in the shot put and discus rings. In shot put she threw 22’ 8.25” and in discus she threw 65’ 5”. Over in Javelin, Makynna landed one 68’ 2”, Lily Roesler threw 63’ 1” and Kerstynn Heim threw 46’ 10”. Ashlyn Weber cleared 3’ 10” and got 6th place.
Ella Kolousek, Alexis Roesler, Kerstynn Heim, Bailey Yost combined time in the 2-mile relay 12:30.65 for 3rd place. The 100m hurdles were run by Bailey Yost, 18.29 for 2nd place; Roslyn Klein ran 25.04 for 6th place; and Lily Roesler ran 25.19. Brooke Mohling ran 15.29 and Celia Garcia ran 17.27 in the 100m dash. The 800m relay of Kendall Kolousek, Mariah Messmer, Logan Mohling, and Kenzie Kolousek ran 1:57.34 for 2nd place. Running the mile were Alexis Roesler, 7:06.78; Masynn Mebius, 7:20.89; and Ella Kolousek ran 7:29.82. The 4x100 relay of Roslyn Klein, Aunnika Heumiller, Selah Havlik, and Lily Roesler ran 1:04.53 for 4th place. Kendall Kolousek ran 1:13.44; Brooke Mohling ran 1:14.22; and Kerstynn Heim ran 1:20.59 in the 400m dash. Bailey Yost covered the 300m hurdles in 58.67 for 5th place. Aunnika Heumiller was 6th in 1:01.10 and Selah Havlik ran 1:04.24. The medley relay of Ashlyn Weber, Mariah Messmer, Logan Mohling, and Kenzie Kolousek set a new meet record with their first-place finish in 4:32.53. Happy Birthday to Mariah Messmer! The girls totaled 61 points for 4th overall in the team point standings.
Running the 800m run, Ella Kolousek, 3:16.42; Masynn Mebius, 3:25.81; and Lily Roesler, 3:29.74. Bailiey Yost was 5th in the 200m dash, running 30.29. Also, running the 200m dash, Brooke Mohling, 32.23 and Celia Garcia, 37.46. Alexis Roesler ran the 2-mile run in 14:55.57 for 3rd place. The mile relay of Kendall Kolousek, Ashlyn Weber, Mariah Messmer, and Kenzie Kolousek ran 4:45.13 for 4th place.
Robbie Hine threw shot put 36’ 0.25” and the discus 118’1” to land in 4th place. Grady Gran threw the shot put 38’ 3.5” to land in 3rd place and the discus landed 99’7”. Wyatt Arhart threw 28’5” in shot put and 59’ 5” in discus. Grason Finn jumped 14’ 7.5” in long jump. Nathan Gaikowski threw the javelin 133’ 1” for 6th place and Wesley Mohlnar threw the javelin 93’ 7”. Ryder Michalek cleared 5’ 10” in high jump for 2nd place and Carson Finn jumped 5’ 8” for 3rd place.
On the track, the 2-mile relay crossed the line in 1st place in 9:09.46 with Carson Finn, Will Grohs, Sam Poncelow, and Karter Mebius. Colby Flowers was 2nd in the 110m hurdles in 18.81. Running the 100m dash, Ryder Michalek in 12.26; Wesley Molnar, 12.72; and Grason Finn, 14.66. The 800m relay of Hayes Havlik, Nathan Gaikowski, Sam Poncelow, and Karter Mebius ran 1:40.91 for 5th place. Three Spartans were in the mile run. Ranick Fjerstad, 5:23.59 for 2nd place, Sutten Jensen, 5:24.60 for 4th place, and Kohen Mebius, 5:43.52.
The 4x100 relay of Hayes Havlik, Wes Molnar, Colby Flowers, and Ryder Michalek ran 48.54 and finished in 2nd place. Carson Finn finished the 400m dash in 59.10 for 5th place and Grason Finn ran 1:08.78. Colby Flowers ran 49.41 in the 300m hurdles for 4th place. Also placing 4th was the medley relay of Hayes Havlik, Nathan Gaikowski, Sam Poncelow, Will Grohs in 4:19.70. Karter Mebius crossed the line in 2:07.99 in the 800m run for 2nd place. Kohen Mebius ran 2:40.28. Hayes Havlik, 25.31 for 5th place, Wes Molnar, 26.33 in 6th place, and Colby Flowers ran 26.96 in the 200m dash. Running the 2-mile run for the Spartans were Sutten Jensen in 12:08.37 to capture the win and Ranick Fjerstad ran 12:50.26 for 3rd place. Also capturing 3rd, was the mile relay of Nathan Gaikowski, Carson Finn, Sam Poncelow, and Karter Mebius in 3:52.70. Together the boys tallied 108 points to finish in 2nd in the team point standings.
On Friday, April 25, 2025, we traveled to Mt. Vernon to participate in the 5th annual Greenway Relays. Anna Arhart threw 35’ 0” to land her shot put in 2nd place and Makynna Heim threw 21’ 4”. Out of the discus ring, Arhart threw 90’ 3”, Makynna threw 52’ 2” and Tieghan Bell threw 39’ 11”. Makynna threw 69’ 4” and Kerstynn threw 58’ 6” over in javelin. Ashlyn Weber participated in the high jump. Ella Kolousek ran 6:57.7 and Masynn Mebius ran 7:19.6 in the mile run. Brooke Mohling, Aunnika Heumiller, Selah Havlik, Celia Garcia ran 1:03.03 in the 400m relay. Kendall Kolousek finished in 1:13.94 in the 400m dash.
Bailey Yost, 54.73; Selah Havlik, 59.91; and Aunnika Heumiller, 1:01.06 in the 300m hurdles. The medley relay finished in 3rd place with Ashlyn Weber, Mariah Messmer, Logan Mohling, and Kenzie Kolousek in 4:40.07. Ella Kolousek led the trio of Spartans in the 800m run with her time of 3:03.17, Kerstynn Heim, 3:09.65; and Masynn Mebius, 3:23.90. Brooke Mohling ran the 200m dash in 31.23; Ashlyn Weber ran 32.21; and Kendall Kolousek ran 32.71. Spartans did not compete in the 2-mile run or the mile relay as we left to return for the MS/HS concert.
Grady Gran threw 37’ 3.5” in shot-put and discus 100’ 7”. Robbie Hine threw 116’ 5” in the discus and 88’ 2” in the javelin. Wyatt Arhart threw the shot put 27’ 2.5” and 63’ 6” in the discus. Nathan Gaikowski threw the javelin 114’ 0” and Wesley Molnar threw 115’ 1” in the javelin. The boys 2-mile relay of Carson Finn, Will Grohs, Sam Poncelow, and Karter Mebius ran 9:00.21 to finish in 1st place. Running in the 100m dash was Ryder Michalek, 12.56; Wesley Molnar, 13.04; and Grason Finn, 15.46. Our 800m relay of Hayes Havlik, Nathan Gaikowski, Sam Poncelow, and Karter Mebius ran 1:39.94.
Ranick Fjerstad ran 5:30.5 and Sutten Jensen ran his mile in 5:33.3. The 400m relay with Hayes Havlik, Wes Molnar, Carson Finn, and Ryder Michalek ran 48.84. Will Grohs ran 57.26 and Richard Cardona ran 58.15 in the 400m dash. The medley relay of Havlik, Molnar, Sam Poncelow, and Karter Mebius ran 3:57.49 for 4th place. Richard Cardona was 2nd in the 800m run with 2:17.72 and Carson Finn was 3rd in 2:20.29. Hayes Havlik ran 25.47 and Grason Finn ran 30.67 in the 200m dash.
On Tuesday, April 29, 2025, we traveled to Miller for the Booster Club Meet with the student-athletes who weren’t already at State FCCLA or National Land & Range. Anna Arhart won the shot put with the toss of 35’ 4” and she placed 7th in discus with a toss of 77’ 3”. Makynna Heim continues to throw out personal bests in shot put 24’ 11”, discus, 72’ 5”, and javelin landed 66’ 10” for 8th place. Kerstynn Heim threw 49’ 7” in javelin and Tieghan Bell threw discus 45’ 5” and ran 18.15 in the 100m dash. Kerstynn, Masynn Mebius, Ella Kolousek, and Selah Havlik combined efforts in the 2-mile relay running 12:36.03 for 2nd place. Seventh graders continue to improve each meet. Aunnika Heumiller ran 23.17 for 4th place and Roslyn Klein ran 23.71 for 5th place in the 100m hurdles. Masynn Mebius placed 8th in the mile run, finishing in 7:28.47. Logan Mohling ran 1:06.81 for 4th place and Kerstynn Heim ran 1:17.47 in the 400m dash. The Spartans had three entered in the 300m Hurdles. Aunnika Heumiller, 1:00.29; Selah Havlik, 1:01.61; and Roslyn Klein, 1:04.23 for 4th, 5th, and 6th places respectively. Ella Kolousek ran 3:03.01 and Masynn ran 3:22.96 in the 800m run. In the 200m dash, Logan Mohling led the Spartans with 30.04 for 4th place. Also running, Selah Havlik, 34.03; Aunnika Heumiller, 34.60; and Roslyn Klein, 35.83. The mile relay of Selah, Kerstynn, Aunnika, and Ella ran 5:09.70 for 5th place.
On the boys’ side, Grady Gran was 5th in shot put with his toss of 39’ 1” and he threw 96’ 3” in the discus. Colby Flowers landed 15’ 6.25” in the long jump and 31’ 6” in triple jump for 5th place. Ryder Michalek was 1st in high jump clearing 5’ 10” and Carson Finn was 5th as he cleared 5’ 2”. Nathan Gaikowski threw 125’ 7” in javelin for 6th place and Wesley Molnar threw 112’ 1”. Colby Flowers medaled in both hurdle races. In the 110H he ran 19.67 for 5th and the 300H, he ran 48.85 for 7th place.
In the 100m dash, Hayes Havlik ran 12.53 for 3rd place, Ryder Michalek ran 12.85 for 7th place, and Wesley Molnar ran 13.45. Ranick Fjerstad ran 5:33.09 in the mile run for 7th place. Hayes, Wes, Nathan, and Ryder clocked 48.63 for 4th place in the 400m relay. Nathan Gaikowski ran 57.42, Carson Finn ran 58.13, and Ranick Fjerstad ran 1:01.80 in the 400m dash. Carson also ran the 800m run in 2:19.26 for 6th place. Hayes ran 25.57 for 4th place and Wes ran 26.50 for 8th place in the 200m dash. The mile relay of Nathan, Ranick, Carson, and Hayes had a combined time of 3:58.58 for 5th place.
The girls and boys who had their distances and times qualify for the 100th anniversary of the Howard Wood Dakota Relays left on Friday morning to participate in the two-day event in Sioux Falls. On Friday, we started on the track with the Class B girls 2-mile relay. This is the third time we have run this relay and each time it has been with different girls due to schedules and injury. Kendall Kolousek, Brooke Mohling, Kerstynn Heim, and Ella Kolousek stepped onto the track at 2:10 pm. Even though they entered with the 18th seed time, these four really stepped up and ran with confidence and determination. They finished in 18th but what matters most, is they combined their efforts for a 23 second PR.
The boys’ 2-mile relay of Richard Cardona, Carson Finn, Sam Poncelow, and Karter Mebius stepped on the track at 3:10pm and they finished a combined effort in 8:50.09 and brought home the 6th place medal.
The girls’ 800m relay of Ashlyn Weber, Mariah Messmer, Logan Mohling, and Kenzie Kolousek ran 1:56.41. The boys’ 800m relay of Hayes Havlik, Nathan Gaikowski, Sam Poncelow, and Karter Mebius ran 1:39.28. In between these two races on the track, we had Anna Arhart throwing shot put and Ryder Michalek in high jump. Anna’s best throw in shot-put was 34’ 7.5” to land her in 29th place among the 40 throwers from all three SD classes and throwers from other states that were selected this year. Ryder was among 27 jumpers in the high jump. The opening height was 5’ 10” of which he cleared on his second attempt. He did not clear 6’0”. That concluded day one for the Spartans.
Events on the second day started at 9:40am for the Spartans with the girls’ medley relay stepping on the track. Running the 200m legs were Ashlyn Weber and Mariah Messmer, who then passed the baton to Logan Mohling for her 400m leg, and then Kenzie Kolousek anchored the relay with her 800m leg. Together their efforts put them across the finish line in 4:27.22 to break the school record and earn them the 8th place medal from HW Dakota Relays.
The boys’ medley relay was at 10:20am and they ran 4:00.52. The members were Hayes Havlik, Nathan Gaikowski, Richard Cardona, and Karter Mebius. Kenzie Kolousek was one of sixtyfour girls in the open 400m dash for all classes. She ran 1:00.82 and finished 26th overall. The final event of the day and for the Spartans was the mile relay. Running for the girls Ashlyn Weber, Logan Mohling, Mariah Messmer, and Kenzie Kolousek in 4:28.74. The boys that ran were Will Grohs, Richard Cardona, Sam Poncelow, and Karter Mebius in 3:42.51. These kids represented Wessington Springs very well and we are proud of their efforts. The whole team was back in action on Tuesday, May 6, as we traveled down to Burke.
