City of WS asks residents for help with statewide initiative at local level
As part of the statewide initiative, “Lead-Free SD,” at the local level, City of Wessington Springs Superintendent Jim Vavra is asking for your help.
“Weareaskingresidents to take a quick survey to see if their home’s water pipe contains lead,” Vavra said. “It’s simple to do and takes just five minutes. You only need a coin, a magnet and a smartphone or computer. If you don’t have a smart phone or computer, we have paper copies available at City Hall.”
To help encourage folks to complete the survey, the City of Wessington Springs is holding a drawing. If residents within the city complete the survey by August 30, their names will be entered into a drawing for $50 in Wessington Springs Bonus Bucks.
“If anyone needs help completing the survey, please call city hall at 605-539-1691, the city water department will gladly come to your house and help you,” Vavra continued. “This survey is city-wide and includes not only residential properties but also businesses. If you own a business in town, please complete a survey for that too.”
More information, as well as a how-to video can be found on the city’s website at www. cityofwessingtonsprings.com.
This effort is part of a nationwide health initiative under EPA’s Safe Drinking Water Act. Water systems across the nation are asking everyone to check their pipes and report their results, regardless of what they find. Knowing where the lead lines are is just as important as knowing where they are not.
