Local Farmer/Rancher Directs Donation to FCCLA Chapters

Local farmer/rancher Tricia Messmer recently directed a $5,000 Bayer Fund America’s Farmers Grow Communities donation to the Wessington Springs FCCLA Chapters. The Wessington Springs FCCLA chapters will use the funds to help with the community service projects this year.

Members of the FCCLA Senior Officer Team accepted the donation from Messmer at the home volleyball game on September 21.

“We want to extend a special thank you to Tricia for expressing this confidence in the work of our FCCLA Chapters. This funding will help members ‘jump-start’ their community service projects for this school year,” said Charlotte Mohling, FCCLA Adviser.

Since 2010, the America’s Farmers programs have awarded nearly $65 million to nonprofits, aspiring ag students and public schools across rural America.

The Grow Communities program asks farmers across the country to participate by nominating nonprofit organizations with resources to strengthen their local communities. Last August, farmers like Messmer entered for the chance to direct a $5,000 Grow Communities donation to a local eligible nonprofit of their choice.

To date, Messmer has applied for, won and directed five Grow Communities grants to a variety of organizations throughout the community.
