Dozens of Springs Residents Set Out on Mid Dakota Bus Tour

Mid-Dakota Rural Water System held a free bus tour on May 22 for Wessington Springs residents to get an upclose view of the rural water system’s facilities and operations.

Many attendees said they went on the tour to better understand the process of getting water from the Missouri River to the tap get an up-close look at the Mid-Dakota facilities.

The first stop was at Mid-Dakota’s Miller office. Following that, the tour headed to the water treatment plant near Pierre. Attendees enjoyed lunch then took a tour of the plant (shown above).

“I’m impressed at what it takes to get that clean rural water to all the participants, producers and towns on rural water,” said Jim Deines, one of the attendees from Wessington Springs. “We went within a half mile of the river where the water is taken. Then it’s pumped into storage units and connected to the filtration plant. It was interesting to see the water that came in and how clean it was going out.

Overall, tour attendees said they were impressed with the technicians, the technology and what takes place every day to get good, clean water throughout its 6,000 square mile system.

On the return trip, the bus stopped at the Blunt Booster Station for a tour then moved on to the Highmore tanks. The tour then made one final stop at the Miller headquarters before heading back to Wessington Springs.

“I’m very appreciative of the Mid Dakota people and their hospitality. They answered all of our questions and answered them well, it was very informative,” Deines added. “The tour gave me some peace of mind that this is what we will be participating in.”
