Jeff and Tricia Messmer took their True Dakotan on an international summer adventure last month traveling by trains, planes automobiles and boats.
“We started in Venice Italy, which was amazing and our favorite place to visit. We didn’t realize it, but everything is by boat — there are thousands and thousands of boats there,” Tricia said. 'Just like the movies, everything is beautiful. The buildings were old, and the architecture was just amazing. We’ve never seen anything like it.”
From there, the Wessington Springs couple traveled to Munich, Germany. “Our eyes were opened to the horrors of the holocaust when we went on a tour of a concentration camp called Dachau,” she said. “It was very emotional.”
After their time in Germany, Paris was next on the list.
“Paris was beautiful, but very, very, very busy as they were in the middle of setting up for the 2024 Olympics,” she said.
Despite a lot of the city being closed for Olympics preparation, the Messer’s have a unique perspective of how Paris was transformed as they watched the different events on TV.
From Paris they traveled to another big, busy city: London. “Here we saw the Changing of the Guards, Big Ben, Mama Mia on Broadway and much, much more.”
The last leg of the trip took the Messer’s to Dublin.
“In Dublin, we decided to rent a car — and they drive on the opposite side of the car, and the opposite side of the road. So Jeff drove, and I navigated.” Tricia recalled. “During our adventure, we met some amazing people, had some amazing food and made a lot of memories along the way.”
