In an effort to encourage Christmas spirit and add a splash of sparkle to Wessington Springs, the Wessington Springs Area Chamber and Development (WSACD) launched the “Bright Nights, Small Town Lights” contest this year — and residents and business owners did not disappoint.
“There are lots of people who decorate every year but this contest encouraged folks to add even more detail, while prompting others to put up a display when they usually don’t,” said Darrell Deneke, WSACD Board Chair. “We’ve had requests to not only do business and resident categories but also country next year.

Residential Overall - Dave and Janice Bender
Residential Ward 1 - Mona and Glenn Naser
Residential Ward 2 - Aryan and Shelby Schooler
Residential Ward 3 - Jerry and Lori Van Den Oever.
WSACD board members served as judges and toured the town Saturday night in a horse-drawn wagon.
“It was cold but we had a great time,” Deneke said, adding that the organization plans to host the contest again next year. “Hopefully next year we’ll have even more entries.
