Sanborn/Jerauld County U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA) announced that Blake Messmer of Wessington Springs and Chris Albrecht of Alpena were elected to represent their local administrative areas (LAA) (respectively) during the recent county committee election.
The Sanborn/Jerauld County FSA expresses thanks to Jeff Reider and AndrewArhartforserving the producers of Sanborn and Jerauld Counties as members of the County Committee. Their knowledge, expertise, and fair judgement have been invaluable to the committee.
LAA 1 (which is comprised of the following Townships: Chery, Dale, Alpena, N 1/2 of Wessington Springs, N 1/2 of Franklin in Jerauld County and Warren, Jackson, N 1/2 of Woonsocket, N 1/2 of Silver Creek in Sanborn County) has been represented by Jeff Reider for the last three years. Chris Albrecht has been elected to serve as a County Committee member for a three year term. Andrew Murphy will serve as the first alternate.
LAA 4 (which is comprised of the following Townships: Viola, Blaine, S 1/2 of Wessington Springs, S 1/2 of Franklin in Jerauld County and Twin Lake, S 1/2 of Woonsocket and S 1/2 of Silver Creek in Sanborn County) has been represented by Andrew Arhart for the last three years. Blake Messmer has been elected to serve as a County Committee member for a three year term. Jennifer D. Feistner will serve as the first alternate.
County Committee members are a critical component of the dayto- day operations of FSA. They help deliver programs at the county level and work to serve the needs of local producers. All recently elected county committee members will take office in January 2025.
Every FSA office is served by a county committee made up of local farmers, ranchers and foresters who are elected by local producers. Other members currently serving on the FSA county committee include Scott Sonne, Timothy Pearson and Amber Kolousek.
County committee members impact the administration of FSA within a community by applying their knowledge and judgment to help FSA make important decisions on its commodity support programs, conservation programs, indemnity and disaster programs, emergency programs and eligibility.
