DeLoris Joy Poorman, 91, passed away on May 12, 2022, at Ava’s House surrounded by her loving family.
DeLoris was born March 28, 1931 in Wessington Springs, SD. Wessington Springs is where she would graduate high school, meet, and marry husband Richard Haddorff. They would have five children and start their family there. They later divorced, and Deloris put herself through nursing school and graduated from USD in 1975. She then went on to be the Director of Nursing at several hospitals and nursing homes in the Denver, CO area. Denver is where she met and married her travel partner, Harry Poorman. They would travel around the world together, visiting every tropical location and snowcapped mountain that their hearts could ever desire. After retirement they sold their home, and then RV’ed around the United States for seven years. They later settled down in Las Vegas where they could play bingo, go dancing, and still get away to Hawaii often. Dee kept a busy social schedule in Vegas and later in Sioux Falls volunteering at polling locations and the Washington Pavillion, dancing, Mah-jong group, bible study, and always ready for a lunch date with many friends and family. Dee could play the organ, was an avid reader, and loved a good game of scrabble or the hardest jigsaw puzzle available. And did it all in heels! Dee nursed, traveled, and went through airports in heels her entire life. Resorting to just 1-2 inch heels only a couple years ago. She did it all, and looked good doing it.
Grateful for sharing her life are her children Micki (Roy) Stough of Sioux Falls, SD, Steve Marilynn) Haddorff of Sioux Falls, SD, Marya Cobb of Jackson, CA, and Julie (Ernest) Haddorff-Garcia of Bellingham, WA; grandchildren; Sonja (Joel) Mentzer of Sioux Falls, SD, Jeff Mentzer of Rapid City, SD, Aaron (Kristen) Haddorff of Minneapolis, MN, Hilary (Charles) Olinger of Sioux Falls, SD, Beth Cobb, Edinburgh Scotland, Brittany Cobb, Oakland CA, Tashina Garcia, Bellingham, WA; great-grandchildren; Lainee, Brandon, Devyn, Sophie, Olivia, Jagger, Micah, Abigail, Stella, and Malachi.
