Scholarship blood drive slated for August 9

LifeServe Blood Center, the sole supplier to over 157 hospitals in South Dakota, Iowa and Nebraska, is seeking eligible blood donors to give blood at an upcoming community blood drive. Blood is a vital part of treatment for countless illnesses and injuries afflicting local hospital patients.

Handicap plate charge justified?

To the Editor, I was born and raised in the area, and at the age of five had an accident with farm machinery that took my left leg off above the knee. I was fitted with a prosthetic “leg” and finished my education and trade school for electrical construction.

THE DOG DAYS OF THE YEAR

Looking through various resources and calendars on my desk, I discovered the month of July is given the title: The Dog Days of Summer. It is considered the hottest and most uncomfortable month of the year.

Continually Evolving

I have written several times that a major challenge with Covid is the fact that it is a continually evolving virus. Just when we think we have an understanding of what to expect and how to combat this adversary, it changes. That is where we are now. The Omicron subvariant BA.

Covid Update

Covid update. I think it is fair to say that we are all sick of dealing with this disease and just want it to go away. Our experience over the past two years, however, tells us that ignoring this virus is not the best strategy.
