The Wessington Springs Spartan girls basketball team opened the 2025–26 season with a 51–39 win over Wolsey-Wessington on Friday night.
The Spartans jumped out to a 13–4 lead after the first quarter, then weathered a scoring drought in the second before Masynn Mebius sparked the offense. Mebius knocked down three 3-pointers in the final minutes of the half, helping Wessington Springs take a 24–15 lead into intermission.
Wessington Springs opened the second half with a decisive 15–2 run, stretching its advantage to 40–17. Wolsey-Wessington closed the third quarter with six straight points to cut the deficit to 40–23, but could get no closer than 12 points in the fourth as the Spartans secured the season-opening victory.
Kerstyn Heim, Masynn Mebius and Kendall Kolousek each scored 14 points to lead the Spartans. Kaitlyn Braun paced the rebounding effort with seven boards, while Addy Orth added six.
