Despite gusty conditions, Spartans rose to the challenge

On Monday, September 20, 2024, the Spartans blew into Miller for the cross country meet at their golf course on the north edge of town. The wind was strong, but the temperature was comfortable, making the kids ready for the challenge.

The girls lined up first for the varsity race. There was a re-start as a couple girls got tripped up, went down, and Masynn even had to hurdle them to avoid the collision. After the restart, things went much better and everyone stayed upright, even against the wind.

Leading the way for the Spartans was Alexis Roesler, as she positioned herself within the top twenty. Ella Kolousek and Masynn Mebius stayed close to each other for most of the race. Bailey Yost is putting more miles on her legs and getting her pace figured out.

Alexis finished with a time of 23:29.72 to secure the 18th place medal. Ella finished in 43rd with her time of 26:15.58. Masynn was 46th running 26:59.54. Bailey was 53rd with a time of 28:24.90. There were 57 runners that crossed the finish line in the girls’ varsity race. Together the Spartans finished in 10th in the team standings with 86 points.

The boys in the varsity race had a clean start. Sam had himself in good position amongst a pack as did Ranick. They ran well in the pack and used other runners to help with the wind. Sam finished in 19:26.79 to secure the 12th place medal. Ranick moved to the front of his group and finished in 49th place with a time of 22:17.17. There were 69 runners that finished in the varsity boy’s race.
