Spartans Compete Strong at Chamberlain, Corsica JH Meets

On Monday, April 13, 2026, Coach Arhart took the seventh- and eighth-grade Spartans to Chamberlain to compete in the River City Rising Junior High Track & Field Meet.

With eight student-athletes competing across 23 events, the Spartans made a strong showing. “We may be small in numbers, but we make up for it in perseverance and effort,” Arhart said.

In the seventh-grade girls division, Josie Arhart placed second in the shot put with a throw of 24’ 11.5” and fifth in the discus at 44’ 8”. She also ran the 100-meter dash in 16.90.

In the eighth-grade girls division, Kaycee Scheel placed second in both the shot put (18’ 4”) and discus (40’ 10”). She also ran the 100-meter dash in 16.26 and the 200-meter dash in 34.75.

Also competing in the eighth-grade division, Aunnika Heumiller won the 100-meter hurdles in 22.32, recovering from a stumble to finish first. She also won the 200-meter hurdles in 36.02 and placed second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:55.60.

On the boys’ side, the team consisted of seventh graders who represented the school well. Casen Waters won the long jump with a leap of 15’ 9”. In the high jump, Keaton Hasty cleared 5’ 1” for first place, while Chase Wenzel cleared 4’ 6” for third.

In the 100-meter dash, Casen Waters placed first (13.28), Chase Wenzel second (13.90), and Keaton Hasty fourth (14.39). Ethan Heumiller and Lorin Schaller competed in the mile run, finishing second and fourth with times of 5:47.21 and 6:18.10, respectively.

The medley relay team of Casen Waters, Ethan Heumiller, Chase Wenzel and Keaton Hasty won in 2:00.14. In the 800-meter run, Ethan placed third (2:46.78) and Lorin seventh (3:02.75). Keaton Hasty also won the 200-meter dash in 28.61.

The Spartans closed out the meet with a win in the mile relay, as Casen, Lorin, Chase and Ethan combined for a time of 4:41.13.

On Thursday, April 16, the junior high athletes traveled to Corsica for the Corsica/Stickney JH Meet. Arhart gave a “big shout out” to Hope and Rebecca for transportation and support.

Kaycee Scheel threw the shot put 18’ 6.25” and the discus 46’ 0”, and ran the 100-meter dash in 16.06 and the 200-meter dash in 35.64.

Josie Arhart won the shot put with a throw of 24’ 4.5” and placed third in the discus at 59’ 3”. She ran the 100-meter dash in 16.92.

Aunnika Heumiller placed second in the 100-meter hurdles (19.26) and won the 200-meter hurdles (36.56). She also competed in the 800-meter run.

Casen Waters won the long jump with a leap of 16’ 3.5”. Keaton Hasty cleared 5’ 6” to win the high jump and tie the meet record. Chase Wenzel cleared 4’ 8” for third place.

In the 100-meter dash, Casen Waters placed second (12.73), Chase Wenzel fourth (13.51), and Keaton Hasty seventh (14.09). Ethan Heumiller won the mile run in 6:10.87.

The medley relay team of Casen Waters, Ethan Heumiller, Chase Wenzel and Keaton Hasty again took first place with a time of 1:59.13.

Lorin Schaller was unable to compete due to a foot injury.

Casen Waters also placed second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.29.

The Spartans will resume action in varsity meets next week. Their next junior high meet is May 4, 2026, in Huron for the 281 Conference meet.
