Wessington Springs High School junior Jaspur Gran represented South Dakota in the 285-pound division at the 2026 USA Wrestling 16U National Duals in Farmington, Utah. Gran earned a spot on Team South Dakota after qualifying at the South Dakota Freestyle State Championships and finished the national tournament with a 6-2 individual record while helping the team place second in its bracket.

Teeners set sights on state tournaments

The Wessington Springs 17U Teeners played Monday night in Gregory and now turn their attention to the South Dakota VFW Varsity Bravo Division State Tournament in Britton. Wessington Springs opens pool play Friday with games at 2:30 p.m. against Britton and 5:30 p.m.
Despite muddy conditions left behind by Thursday afternoon’s severe storms, the Wessington Springs SDRA Rodeo delivered two exciting nights of competition July 2-3. Once the weather cleared Thursday evening, contestants put on a memorable show, demonstrating determination and skill while fans filled the grandstands.

CHICAGO — Caralina Mebius, granddaughter of Mike and Terri Mebius of Wessington Springs, capped another outstanding season by finishing second nationally in the 10-11-year-old girls division at the 2026 Elks Hoop Shoot National Finals, held April 18 at WinTrust Arena in Chicago.
Mauer Jones represented Jerauld/Buffalo County at the South Dakota State Shooting Sports Competition, earning a state championship in Junior Compound Without Sight Release while also placing fourth overall in Junior Compound With Sight Release. Jones also earned purple ribbons in C-Open competition.

Twenty members of the Jerauld/Buffalo County Shooting Sports program represented the county at the South Dakota State Shooting Sports Competition April 24-26 in Pierre and Fort Pierre, with several competitors earning top finishes, highlighted by a state championship from Mauer Jones.

The 18th Annual Blue & Gold Golf Tournament brought golfers together at the Springs Country Club on Saturday, June 27, for a day of friendly competition in support of the Spartan Booster Club.
