Spartans Shine at State Track and Field

BY HEAD TRACK & FIELD COACH BECKY KRUEGER On Wednesday, May 24, 2023, the Spartans headed to Sioux Falls to prepare for the State Track & Field Meet to be held at the Howard Wood Stadium. In the second year of the threeday state meet, we had kids qualify for events all three days.

The golf tournament season is officially underway with the Annual Pair of Jacks Memorial Tournament drawing 26 teams to the course Sunday, May 29. The tournament was held in memory of Jack Ferguson and Jack Krueger and hosted by the Ferguson and Krueger families. The families said the tournament was held in celebration of two Wessington Springs men and their love for community, family, friends and golf.

On Thursday, May 18, 2023, the Spartans traveled to Lake Andes to participate in the Region 5B Track & Field meet. The smoke coming down from the Canadian wildfires didn’t lift as we traveled south thus making conditions a little bit tougher on some athletes.

Spartans Track and Field Enjoy Stellar Success at 281 Conference Meet

On Tuesday, May 9, 2023, the Spartans traveled to Huron to participate in the 281 Conference Meet. In girls’ shot-put Avery Orth won with her toss of 37’ 9”. Anna Arhart’s throw of 32’ 0.5” for 4th place and Kirstie Munsen threw 29’ 8” and landed in 5th place. Alicia Collins threw 24’ 9.
