For Many Area Folks, There’s No Time Like SD State Fair Time

  • During the Wessington Springs Eatery’s inaugural year serving at the fair (where the restaurant won the esteemed prize of best new food booth), Sweet Grass owner Heather Larson said they served about 5200 people. “We want to thank everyone who came and supported us at the fair. And those who shared and commented on Facebook to help spread the word we were there. We had a great time and will be doing it again,” Larson said.

  • The national qualifying Wessington Springs FFA Floriculture team did a demonstration at the Horticulture Building on floral design and helped kids make flower arrangements to take home. The team made up of Mariah Messmer, Anna Arhart, Mercedes Jones, Carissa Scheel and Alyssa Grohs helped children create 50 flower arrangements in about 40 minutes.     It’s well documented that much of Jerauld County area thins out significantly during the last weekend in August as locals make a well-worn path to the South Dakota State Fair in Huron. While we could devote an entire newspaper of the activities and events locals take part in at the fair, we’re sharing just a few snapshots from the weekend.
