Building Toward the Future: Construction Boom Signals Progress in Wessington Springs

  • Construction is well-underway across Wessington Springs, including on Main Street East. The prepared section of the street now awaits hot mix installation, designed to bear larger loads than the current surface.

Underground work is projected for the next several weeks with road resurfacing to follow. Funding for the $1,607,000 2nd Street project is comprised of a Community Access Grant though the SDDOT, a SRF Grant, $162,911 in local American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds, a SRF loan and funds from the city’s 2nd Penny fund.

  • The lowest bid to surface the Wessington Springs Elementary School parking lot was submitted by Feistner Gravel & Excavation and came in at $793,800.39 for all concrete surfacing. The school district will fund the parking lot with funds in capital outlay plus $190,000 previously set aside to take care of the rec center.
