After taking the community on an incredible ride not seen in over two decades capped with a thrilling trip to the SoDak 16, the Lady Spartans generated loads of fan support from far and wide this season. Erin Yost and daughter Remi hold a “We Believe” sign, inspired by the Lady Spartans 1999 trip to state that Yost was a part of as a player. “I’ll never forget going down Main Street and seeing the community holding these signs,” she remembered, adding that she made more than a dozen “We Believe” signs to hand out for the girls’ SoDak 16 send off last Thursday. “I am excited to see the energy come back to our community about our high school events.”
Gerry Orth went all out to support the lady Spartans at last week’s SoDak16 game at the Huron Arena with not only a dyed mohawk but also Spartan-blue eyebrows. Read more about the SoDak 16 game in this week's print and e-edition on PAGE NINE
Only adding to the basketball buzz in the community, the boys basketball team defeated the Marty Braves last Friday, punching their ticket to the SoDak 16 game Tuesday, March 7. Enjoying a lively student section all season long, the Spartans relied on their fans to really bring the spirit at Friday’s game. A swath of blue and gold filled the Corn Palace, as can be seen by Spartans fans Gerald and Julie Kraft.
Themed nights were celebrated in large numbers by Wessington Springs School District students throughout the season. From left to right, Ridge Roduner, Garrett Anson, Maverick Jones, Blake Larson and Keaton Hasty went all out for “hick night.”
During regular and post season, Wessington Springs Elementary School sixth grader Sutten Jensen helps stoke school spirit with “the wave,” as seen above during boys basketball 5B Regions at the Corn Palace Friday.
Despite the girls and boys basketball seasons coming to a close in the SoDak 16, Spartans and their fans have much to celebrate this season. More boys basketball coverage can be found in this week's print and e-edition on PAGE TEN
