Week 5 in the state legislature was pretty fast paced, for the most part. Crossover day is quickly approaching which is the last day for bills to crossover from their chamber of origin. The www. sdlegislature.gov website is a great website to track and search for bills that interest you.

“Cuppys Corner”

Darleen Cuppy wrote her Cuppy’s Corner News Monday morning. Delia Atkinson came to get it later in the forenoon. Darleen enjoyed the pork loin dinner and peach dessert from the Manor kitchen. We have had many foggy days! Darleen enjoyed the meatloaf dinner from the Senior Center on Tuesday.

Week 4 in the state legislature is cruising right along. The deadline date for bill introduction has passed and there are about 500 bills and resolutions have been introduced. The www. sdlegislature.gov website is a great website to track and search for bills that interest you.

In South Dakota's capital on Thursday, Governor Noem gathered the House and Senate to discuss deploying National Guard troops to aid Texas with its high number of illegal immigrants.

We finished legislative day 17, 20 days remain in the 2024 Le g i s l a t ive Session. There are 258 House Bills and 220 Senate Bills, all of which will have a committee hearing and if passed, will have floor debate in both Chambers. Our plate is full.

Musings on City Light Plant’s 100th Anniversary

BY DUKE WENZEL  The city light plant marked its 100th anniversary in 2023. The brick and tile building was started in July of 1923 as the big numbers say on the east side. The building would first house a 100 horse power engine the city purchased at Anderson Indiana.
