A Basketball Blizzard for the Ages

South Dakota is enjoying an unusually warm and dry early spring. Snow geese passed through a couple weeks early, tulips are popping out of the ground and, in what was a relief for thousands of high school basketball fans, the annual threat of a state tournament blizzard never materialized.

Local Youth Wrestlers Bring Home Hefty Hardware at State

Eleven wrestlers represented Pony Hills at the South Dakota State AAU wrestling tournament last weekend with a whopping nine bringing home a medal, including a new state champion in the tots 67 pound weight group, Zayden Wolfcale.

While this is undoubtedly a thrilling season to be a Spartans fan as the boys basketball team makes its third-ever appearance at the state tournament, the Mebius family has another reason to celebrate.

Spartans Head Into Regions as 281 Conference Champs, First in Conference With a definitive 67-49 victory at home over Sanborn Central/Woonsocket on Friday, February 23, the Spartans emerged at the very top of the 281 Conference. Ryder Michalek had 22 points and eight rebounds.

A large group of 14 Pony Hills wrestlers made their way across the mat at regions last week with a dozen of the local student athletes advancing to state. Wrestlers will head to The Monument in Rapid City March 15-17 to compete at the state level.
