Fire Safety Lessons Hit Home for Wolsey Wessington Elementary Students

With October being Fire Safety Month, Kindergarten, First, and Second Grade students at Wolsey-Wessington spent time learning valuable lessons about fire prevention and safety.

Students and teachers took a field trip to the Wolsey-Wessington Fire Hall, where they participated in several hands-on activities designed to help them become more fire aware. The visit began with an educational video on fire safety techniques, followed by a presentation from firefighter David Jensen, who explained what to do in the event of a fire and introduced students to the equipment on a fire engine.

Students also experienced a simulated house filled with fog to represent smoke in a real fire, guided by firefighter Mike McCready. Bryan Woodruff demonstrated the various pieces of protective gear that firefighters wear when responding to an emergency.

The trip was an engaging and educational experience, helping young students better understand fire safety and the important role firefighters play in keeping the community safe.
