On the heels of great success at recent Career Development Events (CDEs),WessingtonSprings FFA members, alongside Wessington Springs High School Ag Food and Natural Resources (AFNR) Teacher Brady Duxbury, took a moment before FFA State Convention to celebrate recent student achievements. CDEs challenge members to develop real-world career skills, critical thinking skills and effective decision-making skills during competition.

Readers from across the nation and throughout the centuries old history of small town newspapers may know the tidbits of news as “society columns” or “country correspondence.” But in the Jerauld County area of South Dakota, it’s “Cuppy’s Corner” that has stood the test of time, celebrating 50 years of the column written by Wessington Springs woman Darleen Cuppy.

Our Favorite Sledding Hills

There aren’t many hills in Lake Norden, so when snow began to pile up during winter our sledding opportunities were limited. Usually, we waited until the city maintenance crew finished plowing the streets because they always deposited the snow in two huge piles: one across from the fire hall and another next to the auditorium.

Show to air on SDPB next month When avid Prairie Yard and Garden fan, Brenda Fagerhaug, was viewing an episode of the horticulture show last year, it dawned on her that Shakespeare Garden would be a perfect subject for an upcoming show. When the Wessington Springs woman shared the idea with daughter Loree Gaikowski, they decided they’d give the producers a call.

Kids of all ages enjoyed a pre-Christmas visit with Santa on December 23. This year marked the event's return to City Hall in Wessington Springs after eight years.
