Shakespeare Garden Blessings Abound

  • Wessington Springs woman Angie Mentzer works the dirt just north of the fish pond. She and husband Shane have taken on the pond-tending role for the past several years, ensuring that the pond is clean for the fish once they return from their winter home.

  • This year, Pastor Nancy Rieke, who recently retired from Our Saviors Lutheran Church, returned to lead the blessing and stayed to plant a flowerbed following the prayer.

    A dedicated group of volunteers gathered on May 21, 2025 for the annual Planting Festival and Blessing of the Garden at Shakespeare Garden and Anne Hathaway Cottage in Wessington Springs. Volunteers planted and tended to the many lush flowerbeds during the Shakespeare Garden Planting Festival. Many hands make light work and thankfully, despite a damp, chill in the air, a large crowd of volunteers arrived ready to work in the gardens.
