Flathead Lake Family Time in Magical Montana
Earlier this month, True Dakotan Editor Kristi Hine, along with mom and Office Manager Delia Atkinson, son JR Hine and partner Chris Schimke, traveled with their True Dakotan to Flathead Lake, Montana for a family vacation. They were joined by Delia’s other daughter Carrie Jamison and her family including husband Hogan and daughters Alina and Olivia of Arizona. Atkinson’s son Donnie and his wife Danielle also made the trip north from Phoenix.
They are shown above with a sculpture of Flathead Lake monster “Flessie” in Polson, MT following an adventurous afternoon of whitewater rafting in the lower Flathead River.
The group of 10 also enjoyed a day boating on the lake, where they anchored at Wild Horse Island, only accessible by boat. The island has been a landmark since the Kootenai Indians were reported to have used it to pasture horses to keep them from being stolen by other tribes.
The park is noted for its wildlife including bighorn sheep, mule deer, bald eagles, as well as five wild horses. The crew was blessed to see two herds of bighorn sheep during the hike, along with several deer and a bald eagle.
At right, the group poses for a photo on the dock of their lake house Airbnb, donning their True Dakotan t-shirts, brought along specifically for the photo opp.
Abundant laughter, delicious meals together, and amazing conversations filled their four days in Montana, rounding out a family vacation none will soon forget.
