The Woonsocket-Wessington Springs-Sanborn Central Bucks fell 28-7 to Chamberlain, but head coach Michael Schmitz saw signs of progress as his team continued to put pieces together on both sides of the ball.“I was very happy with how the team came out to start the game,” Schmitz said.

The Wolsey-Wessington Lady Warbirds picked up a straight-set victory over De Smet, winning 25-11, 25-18 and 25-15.Marley Boomsma led the attack with nine kills, while Preslie Jensen added seven and Maria Nelson finished with four.

Sixteen represent Jerauld/ Buffalo County at State 4-H Rodeo

Sixteen contestants represented Jerauld/Buffalo County 4-H at the 2026 South Dakota State 4-H Finals Rodeo, held Aug. 14-16 in Fort Pierre.

SPARTANS OFF AND RUNNING

The Wessington Springs cross country team is off and running for the 2026 season. At press deadline Tuesday, the Spartans were competing in their first meet of the year at Salem, with varsity and JV runners taking to the course.

Bucks fall to Wagner in season opener

The WWSSC Bucks opened the 2026 football season with a 26-0 loss to Wagner, but head coach Michael Schmitz said the opener showed glimpses of what an experienced Bucks squad can accomplish this fall.

Wolsey-Wessington opened the 2026 football season with a 14-6 victory over Arlington, scoring all 14 points in the first half before holding the Cardinals scoreless over the final three quarters.Freshman quarterback Ty Boomsma completed 14 of 19 passes for 249 yards and two touchdowns.
