Wrestlers From Across the Region Take to the Mat in Springs

Over 350 youth wrestlers took to the mat Sunday in Wessington Springs as Wessington Springs hosted a district tournament, filling the gymnasium with youth wrestlers and fans from across the state including Mitchell, Winner, Crow Creek, Kimball, Mt.

During last Thursday’s SoDak 16 game against Howard, Kate Havlik had eight points.

The Wessington Springs Spartans girls basketball team had their season come to an end with a loss in the SoDak 16 game to Howard last Thursday. Both teams had a hard time scoring to begin the game. However, Howard was able to hit some 3 pointers and took an 11-1 lead after one quarter.

During Friday’s game, Colby Flowers scored 25 points.

The Wessington Springs Spartans persevered, overcoming a nine-point third-quarter deficit during Friday night’s third round Region 5B basketball action, coming up with a 64-58 win over the Marty Braves at the Corn Palace.

After taking the community on an incredible ride not seen in over two decades, the Lady Spartans finished out their season Thursday night with an impressive 16-7 record after a 61-40 loss to the Howard Tigers in the SoDak 16 played at Huron Arena.

On Saturday at the Mitchell Corn Palace, the Spartans girls defeated Gregory by a score of 66-50 to advance to the SDak 16. Avery Orth ended up with 23 points and 11 rebounds.

On Saturday at the Mitchell Corn Palace, the Spartans girls defeated Gregory by a score of 66-50 to advance to the SoDak 16. The Spartans got off to a hot start scoring 24 points in the first quarter and led by eight points going into the second quarter.
