The golf tournament season is officially underway with the Annual Pair of Jacks Memorial Tournament drawing 26 teams to the course Sunday, May 26. The tournament was held in memory of Jack Ferguson and Jack Krueger and hosted by the Ferguson and Krueger families. The families said the tournament was held in celebration of two Wessington Springs men and their love for community, family, friends and golf.

Round One Recap: WSHS Spartans Lead Class B State Boys Golf by Nine-Strokes

Putting in the time has been a consistent mantra for the Wessington Springs Spartans Varsity golf team, and after yesterday’s round one finish in the top spot at the Class B State Boys Golf Tournament, the team and time-focused strategy is paying big dividends.

Student Athletes’ Commitment Stands Out at State

On Wednesday, May 22, 2024, members of the Spartans T&F team traveled to Sioux Falls to prepare for the threeday state track and field meet at Howard Wood Stadium. The weather Wednesday was too perfect and almost a tease.We started Thursday morning, watching Class B girls shot put.

Community Supper Planned for State-Bound Spartans

The community as a whole is invited to the Country Club on Friday, May 31 at 6 p.m. to help congratulate the state-bound golf team and wish them luck as they head to the State Tournament June 3-4 in Brookings.

Spartans Sizzle at Golf Regions

Monday’s compelling first place win (235) at 2B regions held at Rocky Run Golf Course in Dell Rapids catapulted the Spartans team made up of Blake Larson, Brock Krueger, Luke Larson and JD Thompson to the state competition slated for June 3-4 in Brookings.

On Thursday, May 13, 2024, the Spartans traveled to Armour to participate in the Last Chance Meet for region 5B. Due to track and field moving to a top 24 system for qualifying for the three-day state meet, the region meet no longer holds value like it used to.

Spartans On the Move With Busy Schedule

We had a busy and successful week of track & field meets this past week. We started on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, in Huron for the 281 Conference meet. Once again, the weather was not in our favor, but with the end of the season nearing a close, we need to make the most of every meet.

Spartans Shine at 281 Conference Track and Field Meet

On Wednesday, May 1, 2024, Spartan Stadium was the host site of the rescheduled JH 281 conference track & field meet. This meet was for 7th and 8th graders. Throwing shot put for the girls was Baleigh Sails and Tenley Olinger. These two girls, along with Lily Roesler threw discus.

On Tuesday, April 20, 2024, the Spartans traveled south to Burke, to participate in the Meet of Legends. What seemed to be the right choice in terms of weather, as we saw dark clouds and rainbows to the north of us, turned on us as the front moved in once we arrived at Burke.
